Belonging to this church

A body with many members, covenanted together to gather regularly, to love one another as family, and to pursue the church's mission together.

We encourage every Christian to formally join a church where they can be accountable and committed. Our confession summarizes the core beliefs members hold and proclaim together. The covenant below summarizes the commitments members make to one another. Our constitution defines how the church is governed; matters of doctrine, leadership and membership are decided by congregational vote, so every member plays an active role.

Three steps

  1. 01

    Membership class

A four-week class offered regularly through the year on Sunday mornings before worship. It covers our doctrine, mission, order and membership.

  2. 02

    Elder interview

After the class, if you would like to pursue membership, one of the elders arranges an interview; a chance for us to hear your testimony and understanding of the gospel, and for you to ask anything.

  3. 03

    Congregational affirmation

The congregation votes. Candidates usually share a brief testimony first, so the church can hear their profession of faith for themselves.

What we promise one another

As baptized believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we gladly enter into this covenant as members of Jefferson Park Baptist Church. By God's grace we dedicate ourselves to live together as his disciples.

  1. I

We will regularly join in public worship, Bible study, and prayer as a church family. We will also observe baptism and the Lord's Supper, the ordinances of Christ.

  2. II

We will maintain private and family worship, Bible study, and prayer. We will uphold godly homes and marriages where Christ is honored.

  3. III

We will be good stewards of our time and resources. We will fulfill our call to serve the body with our gifts. We will also be good stewards of our bodies, not abusing ourselves through addiction or excess.

  4. IV

We will watch over each other in brotherly love. We will pray for each other. We will participate in each other's joys, and endeavor with tenderness and sympathy to bear each other's burdens and sorrows.

  5. V

We will humbly warn a brother who is in danger of falling into disobedience or error. We will speak the truth in love, be slow to take offense, and be eager to seek swift and lasting reconciliation.

  6. VI

We will pray for our leaders and submit to them as they lead us to Christ through Scripture, teaching and correcting with gentleness.

  7. VII

We will faithfully proclaim the gospel and evangelize the lost. We will cooperate with other believers to advance the cause of Christ in whatever ways God leads us.

  8. VIII

If we leave this church, we will, in a timely manner, seek to join with another church of like purpose and doctrine, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant.
